Hitchhiker's Guide - The Finale!

Mostly Harmless (Hitchhiker's Guide, #5)Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not as good as I would have hoped but I still enjoyed it.  It took me quite some time to get through this last bit of the Hitchhiker's Guide series. It bounced around so much and there seemed to be a great deal of things missing. Characters began disappearing and reappearing at random. I found it quite hard to follow, though still gave it 3 stars because I loved the fact that it did come to some sort of close in the end.

Douglas Adams is one hell of an author that knows how to draw his readers in and keep them going until the end. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of this book, I still couldn't stop making my way through it. That, in and of itself, is a sign of a very talented writer.
On a sidenote, I'm not sure if I agree with the title but I guess I don't really have to. The truth of the matter is this; the Earth IS mostly harmless, though I don't think its occupants are...

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish by Douglas Adams

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (Hitchhiker's Guide, #4)So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish by Douglas Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's time to move on to the next book in this fabulous series!

Talk about a fun read! Adams really knows how to keep a person turning the pages... I started this book a couple of days ago and found that I couldn't stop making my way through it. I am so glad to have such a great story be my first of the new year.

There are so many different things going on that it does get a bit confusing from time to time but I still couldn't help but love it. I found myself laughing my way through it which is a sign that the author did something right, if that was his intention. Having read his work before, I can pretty much guarantee that it was.

Having old friends pop back into existence when I thought they were gone made the book just that much more enjoyable.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1)The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I tried reading this book a few years back and just couldn't get into it. I don't know if it had something to do with the style or what, but I just didn't enjoy it. Well, a few weeks ago I found it as an audiobook, not only that, but it was read by Douglas Adams himself! I figured I would give it another shot and am so glad that I did...

All I can say is that if you ever have a chance to listen to an audiobook that is narrated by the actual author, do it! It's the only way to get the true feel of the emotions the author meant the words to have. Listening to this book, with Adams reading it to me, made me laugh and really enjoy myself. I found myself grinning, shaking my head, and actually laughing out loud (which I don't recommend you do while sitting at your desk at work. It causes strange looks to be directed at you) at times!

Adams has a great imagination as well as an unending sense of humor that keeps the reader very interested. What I found even more interesting is the fact that the description he gives of the actual 'Hitchhiker's Guide' sounds very similar to the Kindle that is sitting next to me right now... Adams created a whole new universe and populated it with such races that would make a 5-legged stripper from Mars turn her head...
There's only one thing left to ask... Do you know where your towel is?
