Socks for Japan - Update (yes, another one...)

For those that have been following my blog for awhile now, you will know about Socks for Japan and the effort I put forth in collecting socks for donations. I ended up collecting hundreds of pairs, as well as kids futons and jackets. Shipping out those boxes made me so happy, knowing that the items would be going to such good use. I knew that the items had arrived because I tracked them but I had not heard from the organization in regards to the next steps in the process. I was beginning to think that I might not hear from them and just let it go. I wasn't so worried about hearing from them. I was just glad to know everything arrived, as it should. When I woke up this morning and found a nice little email in my inbox, it brought back all the happy memories that the initial collecting process had given me. So without further ado, here is the email...

Dear Courtney-san,

We know this is late, but figured it's better late than never to tell you...

We received your package! It was months ago, so we already sorted your socks and will distribute them when we resume disaster-zone operations in the coming weeks. Watch our pages for photos and updates:

and join our email list to stay informed as we hear back from survivors and others:http://socksforjapan.com/list

and eventually add your own correspondence from survivors, if you receive any:http://socksforjapan.com/lettersfromsurvivors

Thank you so much!

In solidarity for Japan,
Jason

So I would like to send a big THANK YOU to Jason for not only starting the whole process but for also getting back to me and letting me know that everything arrived safe and sound. I just hope that it all goes to good use.

Socks for Japan - UPDATE

I know this is supposed to be a review blog and I'll get back to my reviews shortly.
As have mentioned a couple of times in the past week or so about gathering socks to donate to a local organization in Japan. My company is helping me in this endeavor as well. I'm happy to make note that over the last two days, I've collected over 90 pairs of socks and the number is growing each day. I hope to gather several hundred pairs by the 8th which is when I am shipping them out.

Collection so far...
Japan and its entire culture is in dire need of any help that they can get at this moment. As soon as it seems their situation will begin to improve, something else happens and it continues to spiral downhill. Show your support in any way that you can, be it with a kind word or a donation.

Please visit the site, Socks for Japan, and show your support as well! It's much needed and greatly appreciated!

Socks for Japan

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was attempting to get others to donate socks for the folks of Japan.

Since that time, I was able to convince my boss at work to allow me to see if any of my coworkers wanted to participate with me in sending a collection as well. Many have agreed and I'm excited about sending them out soon.

Just yesterday, the GM brought in a big package and let me know that the company has agreed to pay for the shipping so that I didn't have to do it out of my own pocket. This was a huge relief because it was going to be expensive but I didn't mind at all.

After I received that bit of news, my coworker informed me that because of me, she got her entire girlscout troup to participate as well. Each of her 34 girls are getting their parents to go to their works and collect more for the donation pot as well.

Today, another coworker informed me that he found a big box of slipper socks (48 pairs) that he's going to bring in on top of what he already donated.

This show of support really touches my heart and makes me so happy. It's one thing to give money. It's another thing to give a bit of love and kindness...

Socks and Words...

I'm trying to encourage fellow authors to donate a few words or some socks for the victims of the most recent tragedy in Japan. Both words and socks are quite comforting and appreciated in such terrible times.
